It looks like the Reds and Sox will split Jr's salary for the rest of the year and the buyout will be split as well according to ESPN

I don't know of any Griffey for Chad Tracy deal.   The RosieRed  I think I'd heard of Dunn for Tracy as something that had been thrown around.  Of course, I probably wouldn't have done that deal.

The Dunn for Tracy deal was what I was talking about, as dealing Dunn was discussed earlier in the thread.  Why wouldn't you do that deal.  I think it be a pretty solid way to replace probably 75% of Dunn's offense.  He doesn't OPS as high as Dunn but we can't expect that from just any ball player, although his OPS might jump a tad with the move to GABP.

If thats the case the Reds would have saved themselves 4 million I think.

SI.com

12:19 p.m.
Embattled superstar Manny Ramirez has approved a trade to the Marlins, SI.com has learned. While the Red Sox, Marlins and Pirates are still negotiating details of the mega-trade and nothing has been finalized by the teams, one major hurdle has been cleared by Ramirez accepting the deal ahead of time, according to people familiar with the negotiations. The Red Sox approached Ramirez in advance of their negotiations, and got his OK. Ramirez signed off on the paperwork, contingent upon the two $20-million team options for 2009 and '10 being dropped. The move will set the stage for Ramirez to become a free agent this winter, assuming a trade can be completed by the three teams.

I'll take the draft picks over Chad Tracy if that's the best offer.

Tracy isn't necessarily young and cheap.  I think the picks are a better return.  He's not really an outfielder.  He doesn't come anywhere near replacing Dunn's offensive production.

Yeah, Tracy's okay, but his numbers wouldn't improve moving from Az. to GAB.  Parks are similar for lefties.

2006 was good as well 91 R 20 Hr 80 RBI with a .281 Avg is not to shabby for a guy, in Dunn, that will be a FA at the end of this year.  Draft picks don't always work out, and we only get those if we offer Dunn Arbitration.  What if he accepts, 18 million for him next year?

So we save 4M and get some bit players.  That's about what I expected.

BTW, Masset has had some decent groundball tendencies this year, usually those are the types of guys the Cards used to turn into rotation members.  However, it's a lot more useful when you have good infield defense.  At this point though, he's 26 and isn't very good.  Richar has stunk up the joint in AAA this year.  Last year the Sox were hoping he would claim the 2nd base job everyday but instead regressed.  At this point he looks like more of a back-up.  Unfortunately, Kenny Williams usually doesn't mind tossing out a decent prospect, but this doesn't look like one of those times.  It's at least reassuring knowing the direction the Reds are going.

Then we pay it, money is not a problem considering who is falling off the payroll.
